Eat Yourself Happy [Part 1]

Having a good diet is a key weapon in helping to tackle low moods, if the diet is low on good fats and wholesome nutrients then the body won’t be firing on all cylinders.

In such seasons you may feel more anxious and perhaps irritable due to blood sugars being unstable. The chocolate is then reached for creating that go to fix that has you going around the same mountain over and over again. Who am I speaking to?

Some foods can actually help lift your moods such as those that contain Vitamin B and Folate. Both these vitamins are key components in converting our food to energy whilst ensuring optimum brain and nerve function and nutrient absorption. Vitamin B helps produce serotonin which acts like the bodies own anti depressant.

Foods high in these vitamins are :

  • All green leafy vegetables
  • Mushrooms
  • Egg yolk
  • Chicken and Turkey
  • Whole-wheat
  • Nuts and Seeds
  • Beans and Lentils

Vitamin D also known as the sunshine supplement helps the brain to function hence being related to mood disorders such as seasonal affective disorder ( SAD).

Foods high in this sunny vitamin are:

  • Salmon
  • Cottage cheese
  • Eggs

And not forgetting natural sunlight, so try and get out and about when you can and don’t forget your sunscreen on hot days.

Let’s not forget the importance of how what is on the end of your folk can affect your not only your health but your moods too. Take time to leave the mundane down so your hands are empty to reach out to things that will get you excited about life again. Often it’s the small things of nature or creation that will stir your senses in a new fresh way.

Regrets regarding your health can be avoided once you make a decision to make changes to open up your eyes regarding the needs of your tired over worked underrated body.

The time is now and over the next little while I will be educating you all to eat well to be well.

Catch you all real soon, Estelle xx
